Safety Concerns surrounding B737 Max-8

Concerns about safety of the B737 Max-8 have surfaced after Ethiopian Airlines 737 Max-8 crashed a few days ago possibly relating to Lion Air's crash last October. A few European and other countries have barred the 737 Max-8 from flying. Interestingly enough the FAA has not issued a stop to flying this particular type. American Airlines and Southwest are two US natives that are flying the MAX. Even Trump voiced his opinion via Twitter:

Airplanes are becoming far too complex to fly. Pilots are no longer needed, but rather computer scientists from MIT. I see it all the time in many products. Always seeking to go one unnecessary step further, when often old and simpler is far better. Split second decisions are....

Tight Race for Orders and Deliveries - Airbus v Boeing

Here is data since the early 1990s about Airbus v Boeing orders and deliveries. One can see how economic cycle dependent orders are for both companies. The 2008/2009 recession saw a big dip in orders for both companies. Orders saw a max in 2013 and 2014 with levels seen shortly before the last big recession about 10 years ago. 2017 saw a recovering year from lower orders in 2015 and 2016. Airbus finished slightly ahead with orders in 2017 yet it was Boeing that delivered slightly more planes in 2017. Have a look ...

Some Cool Aviation Industry Data Stories: A320 and B737 Neck and Neck and Large Bird Trends

Story 1:  LARGER BIRD MARKET The largest airplane market has seen some dramatic shifts over the last 40+ years with the iconic 4 jet engine Boeing 747 dominating this blank space. Towards the mid 1990s, a tiny bit smaller but still very large Boeing sibling started to take orders away from the Jumbo Jet: the twin engine Boeing 777 picked up orders and is very popular with many airlines today. Airbus' idea to launch the biggest commercial airplane became reality with its first order being recorded in 2007 for its gigantic A380. Though orders started to come in steadily, the quad engine jet has been experiencing shrinking orders in the last few years similar to the the B747. Boeing has basically sun setted the Jumbo for passenger versions (cargo remains). Two new kids on the block, though smaller in size but with very wide flight range, have come onto the market. Boeing's Dreamliner (B787) has picked up orders drastically since its inception earlier this decade. Also Airbus'...
